Costume Construction & Technology

Forged: Zodiaque Dance Concert

2023
University at Buffalo

Choreographer/Director: Kerry Ring

This dance piece is the epitome of collaboration. Kerry approached me early on with an idea and a clip of music. From there we began bouncing ideas off one another until Forged was born. I ombréd the unitards to resemble fire and then hand-painted them to become more geometric.

Cinderella

Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein ll

2023
University at Buffalo

Director: James Beaudry

Prism:   Zodiaque Dance Concert

2023
University at Buffalo

Choreographer/Director: Kerry Ring

These ballet dresses were a part of Prism; which was one of eight pieces presented in the Zodiaque Dance Concert Spring 2023. The colors were amazing and the light power mesh fabric made them beyond elegant.

Custom Wedding Dress

2022

Client: Kate Rose Reynolds

Kate is a professional actor/director based out of California who commissioned me to create an original look for her big day. We were inspired by her mom's 1970s gown that was made of cotton. I decided to elevate it with a sheer lace sleeve that I custom dyed. In the end she (and I) were both happy with how it came out!

The Play That Goes Wrong
By Henry Lewis, Henry Shields, & Jonathan Sayer

2022
Summer Circle Theatre

This smoking jacket was built for a character that was dead most of the show. As such farces go, we still saw this coat because of the puppetry that happens with the corpse and the surprise at the end. For more photos click the button below:

13 Going on 30 Drag Project

This was a personal project where I patterned out the color blocking from the iconic party dress. This was for sure a throw back that turned some heads.

This coat of many colors was completely hand dyed and constructed as a final project for an independent study that focused on dying techniques such as: Shibori, Batik, Silk Painting, and Marbling.

S'Wonderful : An Evening with George Gershwin
By Michael Radi

2021
Bristol Valley Theatre

Director: Katelyn Machnica
Costume Designer: Sammi Miller

Although for the majority of the show Gershwin wears his tuxedo, the costume designer really wanted a custom vest made out of a cream jacquard fabric. So I made him a vest and a matching bow tie.

Just the Ticket
By Peter Quilter

2021
Bristol Valley Theatre

Director: Karin Bowersock
Costume Designer: Elizabeth Porter-Woods

This show was a one woman show that allowed me to build a tropical cork hat, and a 1940's bathing suit. Although the actress didn't have time to actually make the costume change, the director still allowed the suit to be used as a set dressing for the beach scenes.

Bonnets: How Ladies of Good Breeding are Induced to Murder
By Jen Silverman

CLUE

2018
University of Indianapolis

Director: Stephen Cox

This was not the play, but an actual real-life game brought to life by UIndy's Campus Program Board and Alpha Psi Omega. I had the great honor of coordinating the costumes as well as constructing Mrs. Peacock's gown.

Frankenstein
By Mary Shelley
Adapted by Austin Tichenor

2017
University of Indianapolis

Director: Brad Wright
Costume Designer: Penny Sornberger

Aside from also acting in Frankenstein, I constructed vests for Henry Clerval (myself), Victor Frankenstein, and Alphonse Frankenstein. Challenges I faced while working on this show was working with vinyl. Victor’s vest was completely made of red vinyl with some wool accents. Henry’s vest had vinyl panels and lapels, but the real challenge was making it reversible.

Move Over, Mrs. Markham
By Ray Cooney

2017
University of Indianapolis

Director: Brad Wright
Costume Designer: Penny Sornberger

The time is the late 1960’s, and for this British farce I was responsible for the construction of Joanna Markham’s signature jumpsuit and the panelling on her best friend Linda Lodge. I also was responsible for covering a pre-existing blazer for the larger than life Alistair Spenlow. The way this jacket shell was created was by making a custom pattern that was then fully hand-sewn to the base suit.

The Tragedy of King Lear
By William Shakespeare

2015
University of Indianapolis

Director: Brad Wright
Costume Designer: Penny Sornberger

For
this production I was the wardrobe supervisor. This meant I helped in the construction of over a dozen Tudor period gowns, and also managed the multiple changes that happened during the run of each show. To the right are a few examples of the dresses that were completely built. Along with the dresses, I also built a few doublets and petticoats.
